Protocolled Orders (Order Sets, Order Panels, SmartSets, Express Lanes)
Protocolled orders can combine documentation, decision and inquiry-support for a more efficient and error-free ordering workflow. Clinicians are helped with uncommon health problems when, for example, the most relevant intervention orders are complemented by digests of relevant evidence-informed guidance.
Connect Care ordering tools include grouped orders referred to with one or more of the following labels:
Order Sets (SmartSets in outpatient contexts) - are organized collections of information, tools and orderables that address a specific health condition or management challenge.
Express Lanes - are a special kind of SmartSet with a few additional features such as the ability to have a built‐in Chart Search and streamlined medication reconciliation.
Order Panels - are smaller collections of orders that can be used alone or combined with order sets.
Therapy Plans (Treatment Protocols for Cancer Care) - coordinate orderables that need to be repeated or distributed across multiple encounters (visits).
Care Paths - coordinate care, documentation and decision-supports across person, place and time; helping to deploy one or more Order Sets at the best time and place.

Glucose and Insulin Management
The need to manage blood glucose levels is common among patients served in emergency, acute care, critical care and peri-operative settings. A number of tools have been developed to facilitate improved glycemic control for inpatients. These include order panels and sets.
Heparin Infusion Management
The use of intravenous heparin is associated with unique risks. Accordingly, heparin infusions are supported by ordering protocols developed by a provincial task force.
