Microsoft Copilot Chat
Microsoft Copilot Chat is one of the tools available within Microsoft's Copilot app. AHS and the other Alberta health agencies/corporations have a business license for Copilot via a Microsoft 365 subscription.
Type of AI and Common Uses
GenAI Tool and Conversational Chatbot: Copilot Chat is an AI prompt-and-response tool that is grounded in the Web (to reduce hallucinations) and uses a large language model (LLM). It can generate text, images, and summarize information.
Note: Copilot Chat is similar to ChatGPT, but, of these two tools, only Copilot Chat is approved for prescriber and staff use at AHS and the other Alberta health agencies/corporations.
Commons uses of Copilot Chat include:
General search tool
Summarize documents and extract key insights and recommendations
Create presentations, design slides, add content, get tips on how to make slides more engaging
Data analytics and scripting
Job application assistance
Who Has Access
All staff and prescribers with an Alberta health agency or corporation network login have access to Microsoft Copilot, and therefore to Copilot Chat.
How To Access
When working inside any Alberta health agency or corporation network, log in at copilot.cloud.microsoft and a specific instance of Copilot for the relevant network will open. Please note the following before using:
To ensure any content used for Copilot Chat prompts remains secure, make sure you are logged in with your network login and that the green shield icon is displayed in Copilot Chat. The icon may be in the top-left corner of the screen or beside the "New Chat" button in the top-right corner of screen (as in screenshot below), depending on your browser window size. This icon indicates that Microsoft's enterprise data protection control feature is turned on, meaning that data stays secure and private and does not train the underlying AI model. Using GenAI without enterprise data protection can expose both prompts and generated content to the public.
